Acupuncture is the most famous branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the West, which also includes dietetics, pharmacopoeia, Tui Na massage and energy exercises (Tai Ji Quan and Qi Gong). In this section, we present to you the report of the visit to an acupuncturist of six people suffering from common ailments, each one having been inspired by a real case. Their presentation uses many concepts specific to TCM which are presented in the other sections. The six conditions are:

  • ជំងឺធ្លាក់ទឹកចិត្ត;
  • the tendinite;
  • menstrual pain;
  • slow digestion;
  • ឈឺក្បាល;
  • ជំងឺហឺត។

ប្រសិទ្ធភាព

These conditions were chosen to demonstrate the treatment options offered by TCM. They give a realistic portrait of the types of problems regularly treated by Western acupuncturists. It should be noted, however, that there have so far been very few scientific studies to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture for specific diseases. Precisely because it is a global medicine, it is difficult to evaluate it according to Western scientific criteria. Although modern research is beginning to shed light on the mode of action of acupuncture points, for example (see Meridians), there is still a lot of work to be done on the side of scientific validation.

The 5 sections

Each sheet is divided into five sections.

  • It first presents a report of the examination carried out with the patient. Since health is considered as a state of equilibrium (between Yin and Yang, and between the Five Elements), and not only as the absence of observable pathological signs, this examination also includes a study of the “field”, c ‘that is to say of all the physiological functions, which are not necessarily linked to the reason for consultation.
  • Then, the most common causes of the type of condition in question are examined.
  • Then, we draw up the specific energy balance of the patient, according to his own symptoms, interpreted within one of the TCM analysis grids (see Examinations). In a way, it is a global diagnosis that identifies which pathogenic factors have affected which functions or which Organs. We will speak for example of a Void of Qi of the Spleen / Pancreas with Heat in the Stomach or of a Stagnation of Qi and Blood in a Meridian.
  • From there, will flow the treatment plan and advice on healthy living.

Not all acupuncturists do it exactly this way, but it does give a good idea of the elements that typically make up a visit to one of them.
