An artist reshapes the silhouette of the Disney princesses

Ariel, Jasmine, Belle… these fairy-tale princesses make all children dream and are admired by little girls. Yet their appearance is unrealistic. They are indeed extremely thin. So what would they look like if they had a normal figure? Answer in pictures with Loryn Brantz, an artist who decided to give them a “real” waistline.

The Disney princesses are heroines above all, those who give us great lessons in life but side appearance, it is the dictates of thinness – extreme – and fragile beauty that prevail. These clichés, which are aimed primarily at children, unconsciously induce a standard yet impossible to reach as these “perfect” bodies do not reflect reality. It didn’t take the graphic designer and illustrator Loryn Brantz any less to take hold of these bodies and make them more realistic in order to help all children grow up assuming their own appearance, without shame.

The artist, a young New Yorker, summed up her project in an interview with the Huffington post: “As a woman who adores Disney and has had issues with her body, it’s something I’ve always wanted. treat, especially after seeing Frozen. While I loved the movie, I was horrified that the main female characters hadn’t changed since the 60s. The animation industry has always been very male and I think that explains why these drawings are so extreme in their proportions. Their necks are almost every time as big as their waist! ”

Loryn Brantz therefore reused drawings of these Disney princesses and made a small modification to life size of their silhouette.. The before / after photos were posted on Buzzfeed. Results, these women are just as beautiful with some forms and their miraculous story is not changed. Loryn Brantz’s magic wand transforms the princesses of our childhood to send a straightforward message to the media and to children. “When we are children, we may not realize that these images broadcast in the media have an impact on us, but they do. These media have the power to change the way women are seen and how they see themselves so they should start taking responsibility, ”she adds. The Disney princesses have become, in recent years, fabulous communication tools, already used in various campaigns for diversity or disability. Their beauty is far from fixed, it evolves with society.
