Symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome (Myalgic encephalomyelitis)
- A persistent unexplained fatigue which lasts over 6 months (3 months for children);
- Recent or onset fatigue;
- This fatigue is not linked to intense physical or mental exercise;

Fukuda’s criteria for diagnosing chronic fatigue syndrome To diagnose this disease, 2 major criteria must be present: – Fatigue for more than 6 months with reduced activities; – An absence of apparent cause. In addition, at least 4 minor criteria must be present among the following: – Memory impairment or significant difficulty concentrating; – Irritation of the throat; – Cervical stiffness or axillary lymphadenopathy (lymph nodes in the armpits); – Muscle aches; – Joint pain without inflammation; – Unusual headache (headache); – Unrestful sleep; – Generalized fatigue, greater than 24 hours after physical exercise. |
